How Do I know If This Is My Own Thought, Or If God Is Trying To Speak To Me?

So I think my theory about Satan sabotaging my blog was right. The screen cracked on the laptop I had been using and I have not since been able to get to a computer. I don't know exactly what I need to do in order to achieve the goal I have for this blog or what I need to post on here but I feel like it's pretty important. Even if my words don't help someone else, I know the things I am doing to come closer to an understanding of my worth and my god is important for me at this time in my life. And I feel like since I stopped writing I've kind of taken a step or two backwards.

I didn't get to finish my last post because of the computer problems I faced but I decided to leave it as it was. However, there is so much more that I gained from Sister Dew's talk and I would like to continue to talk about just a bit. I came away from that fireside feeling so empowered and full of potential. She talked about the power of prayer and how we can ask God to teach us how to feel the spirit.

I can think of 101 examples of times when I didn't do something because I cast out what I decided was a dumb thought of mine. To this day I blame myself for the scar on my brother's leg. We had gone to the backyard one day so he could show me the obstacle course he had set up to train for football. Included in the course was a metal window well that had been pulled out from one of the basement windows in our house. For those who don't know, these wells have two sides; a rounded edge and a raw edge that sticks into the ground. It just so happens that my brother had put the raw side facing up in his obstacle course. I noticed it before he started and the thought kept occurring to me to turn the window well over so that if he tripped he wouldn't skin his leg. I kept putting it off because I didn't want to interrupt the obstacle course. Though the window well he was going to jump over was at the end of the track and I would've had time to flip it over before he got to it, I kept making excuses not to do it. I waited with baited breath as he approached the well. Finally the moment came when he went to jump and missed. He fell to the ground clutching his shin and burned in my brain is the image of every muscle and tendon and whatever else is in there being completely exposed. I don't think I have ever run faster in my life than I did to go get my parents. He was rushed to the emergency room and received 50+ stitches. You'd think that this would have taught me my lesson but I find myself disregarding what looking back is the spirit far too often. Sister Dew said that there are times even she doesn't know if she is receiving revelation or if something is her own thought. She said that if we are unsure about this, ask Heavenly Father to teach you how you feel the spirit. Ask what it feels like when you receive a prompting or how you know you're receiving revelation. It's scary to ask, I don't always want to know because then I don't have an excuse. But if I am really dedicated to becoming a daughter of God with divine potential and infinite worth, then I shouldn't be looking for excuses.

My goal for this week is to start acting on impressions. No matter how small they may seem in the moment.

"...If there is anything virtuous, lovely, of good report, or praiseworthy, we seek after these things..."

If I have an thought, even if it is my own thought, but if I have a thought and it's not something that would bring obvious danger to me, there's a chance it could be a prompting from the spirit. I'm hoping that as I start to act on the impressions I have now, that I will be blessed to receive more and that Heavenly Father will teach me what it feels like for me to receive revelation and feel His Holy Spirit.

Repentance

I was reading in my scriptures today in 3 Nephi 13. And I came across a thought that I felt the need to write down. Verse 24 reads, " No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon." As I read that I realized how true that had been in my own life. Something I like to do in my spare time is to go slacklining. If you've never heard of it before it's kind of like tight rope walking. You string a line of rope between two trees and try to walk across it. It's a lot more fun than it sounds because when you get good you can do tricks and things on it. But this is just something I really like to do. I've gotten pretty good at it and I can walk the whole line without having help, I can walk backwards and I can even run and jump up onto it. But even the best people at it can lose their balance or even fall off. When you fall you can either fall to ...

Nothingness vs. Worth

I was blessed with some very beautiful lessons at church today that tied together the thoughts and themes from my recent scripture studies and I thought I should share. Do with it what you will but I hope that as you read this post, the Spirit whispers hope and love to your heart. An analogy was given at church today that sort of perfectly portrays our relationship with God. Think back to when you were little, in the car, going to Grandma's house. Did your dad ever let you sit on his lap and "drive"? I don't think I've ever been in that situation but you can see the visual, right? Even though we are given the illusion that we're driving--I mean, we're at the wheel and we're told we're doing the driving but, we have a pretty limited idea of what we're doing. It's our dad in this situation that is really the one calling the shots. He is managing the speed and the turns. Even more than operating the vehicle, we may have known we were going ...
