My Worth is Not Determined by How Others Treat Me But How I Treat Myself

**This is an old post I never posted slash never finished.** Today in Relief Society, we had an excellent lesson on forgiveness. I probably could've paid better attention, but what I got from the message is that we all go through our trials and it is not for us to judge who deserves our forgiveness, but to forgive all men and to forgive ourselves. We talked about trials we go through and how the actions of others affect us. But I just kept thinking that we cannot control what happens to us. It is not my choice how others treat me. And that way others treat is not who I am. I may experience the worst trials in life but I can handle those challenges with dignity and endure them well. When I do that, my character becomes unshakeable. That shapes who I am and over time I do not have to question or doubt myself. I can have full confidence that because of the things I've gone through, this is who I am. I think ultimately, that is what I want. To approach situations and think of al...

giving a talk is fun to do, to do, to do

I gave this talk in church of Sunday. I just wanted to include it on here because this talk is a shining example of my growth. I learned so much in writing, preparing, and giving this talk. My mom had come to visit the week before and I'm so sad that she couldn't stay long enough to hear it, but she was a big help in helping decide what to talk about. I have an inability to ad lib in front of audiences so this is written pretty much word for word as it was given. I'm very surprised at how relaxed I was when I was actually on the pulpit, I mean I still pretty nervous, but it was not near as bad as it's been in the past. I thank Heavenly Father for that. Truly an answered prayer. We Can Be Modern Day Pioneers to Build Zion Well, good afternoon. Today we’re talking about Pioneers. More specifically I’m speaking about establishing Zion. If you remember nothing else from my talk, please remember this; through the Atonement of Christ, we can overcome all of our challenges...

How Do I know If This Is My Own Thought, Or If God Is Trying To Speak To Me?

So I think my theory about Satan sabotaging my blog was right. The screen cracked on the laptop I had been using and I have not since been able to get to a computer. I don't know exactly what I need to do in order to achieve the goal I have for this blog or what I need to post on here but I feel like it's pretty important. Even if my words don't help someone else, I know the things I am doing to come closer to an understanding of my worth and my god is important for me at this time in my life. And I feel like since I stopped writing I've kind of taken a step or two backwards. I didn't get to finish my last post because of the computer problems I faced but I decided to leave it as it was. However, there is so much more that I gained from Sister Dew's talk and I would like to continue to talk about just a bit. I came away from that fireside feeling so empowered and full of potential. She talked about the power of prayer and how we can ask God to teach us how to ...

I Will Not Be Stopped, Slowed Down, Or Twarted

I went to a fireside tonight where Sheri Dew spoke. She was spectacular. I found it interesting that the girl who said the prayer asked that we all hear what we need to hear and that not only did that phrase stick out to me but it was fulfilled. I very much heard what I needed to hear. I can't imagine what more could be said that would be more applicable. *Side note: I have a theory that Satan and his hosts are sabotaging this blog. Just tonight I've had my computer shut down a few times, trouble with the internet connection, things like that. Guess that means that I have something worth saying. And that is this, I may not have a perfect knowledge of who I am right now, but I will soon come to that knowledge, and once I do, the world better look out. "If I understood my individual worth and my relationship with Heavenly Father, I could overcome any challenge." This phrase has been recurring in my mind for the past week or two now. It again popped into my head during...

Strengthening My Relationship With Me

I recently stumbled upon an article entitled,  Helping Children Develop Feelings Of Self-Worth .  In it talks about two specific ways Latter-Day Saint parents can help their children develop self-worth to overcome challenges. Seeing as how we're all children of God, I believe we can apply these things to our own lives to help  ourselves  develop our own self-worth. Those things are "(1) strengthen the spiritual environment of the home, and (2) maintain a strong, loving relationship with each child." Strengthening the Spiritual Environment of our Home Whenever I hear phrases about inviting the spirit into our homes, I always think of cleaning. Like, the spirit can't dwell in my house if my room is messy or if my dishes aren't done and the floor hasn't been vacuumed. So today I am cleaning. I really don't like cleaning but I feel like it's worth it if I can have the spirit with me. I believe that cleaning our homes is just the start of how to invite th...

My Life Story As A Blog Post

This is my 12-step program to understand, acknowledge and become the woman of worth I believe I can be. I feel like I'm at a point in my life where nothing is how it once was and being the person I've been is not going to get me any further. I have this overriding desire to reinvent myself. We'll start at the beginning to give you just a bit of insight into my life thus far. I was born in Colorado. By the time I was eight-years-old, I had moved at least eight times and had just relocated to my eighth state. That's a lot of eights! We moved once more within that year before settling into the house I grew up in. When I look back on my childhood, I remember glimpses of places we'd lived before, but honestly, nothing compares to the memories that were made in that house. A change in my dad's job uprooted my family once more. I was in high school by this point. We trekked across the country to the place I graduated high school. Not even a month after that my famil...
