My Worth is Not Determined by How Others Treat Me But How I Treat Myself

**This is an old post I never posted slash never finished.**

Today in Relief Society, we had an excellent lesson on forgiveness. I probably could've paid better attention, but what I got from the message is that we all go through our trials and it is not for us to judge who deserves our forgiveness, but to forgive all men and to forgive ourselves. We talked about trials we go through and how the actions of others affect us. But I just kept thinking that we cannot control what happens to us. It is not my choice how others treat me. And that way others treat is not who I am. I may experience the worst trials in life but I can handle those challenges with dignity and endure them well. When I do that, my character becomes unshakeable. That shapes who I am and over time I do not have to question or doubt myself. I can have full confidence that because of the things I've gone through, this is who I am. I think ultimately, that is what I want. To approach situations and think of all the dumb little things I do and wonder what that will make others think of me. Did I just say something dumb? Why did I laugh that loudly? What am I wearing? Should I do this thing? I hate how often I question myself. I don't know if other people do this, but I feel like it holds me back so much. I am so concerned with how others perceive me. But here's the thing. It doesn't matter. I am not them. They do not decide my worth.

**I stopped here so I will now finish.**

I am who I am because of the experiences slash challenges I've had in life. It is not for other to decide who I should be or dictate how I perceive myself.

Sidenote: I just ate a lot of sugar. Someone came in and dropped like 3 boxes of theater candy on our coffee table and little bags of Jelly Belly's and a package of cookies. Also, My aunt gave me cookie dough ice cream. I've just been picking at the candy and I only had a couple bites of ice cream but that add up quick. That's a lot of calories. I love calories.

Anyways, back to what I was saying. I am too harsh on myself. That's about what it comes down to. I've made mistakes, but I can move on. Life is going to be so fun from here on out. I'm excited for what lies ahead of me.

Love forever,

Ryley

P.S. Sorry I'm such a spaz and this post was all over the place. I really need to get it together.

How Do I know If This Is My Own Thought, Or If God Is Trying To Speak To Me?

So I think my theory about Satan sabotaging my blog was right. The screen cracked on the laptop I had been using and I have not since been able to get to a computer. I don't know exactly what I need to do in order to achieve the goal I have for this blog or what I need to post on here but I feel like it's pretty important. Even if my words don't help someone else, I know the things I am doing to come closer to an understanding of my worth and my god is important for me at this time in my life. And I feel like since I stopped writing I've kind of taken a step or two backwards. I didn't get to finish my last post because of the computer problems I faced but I decided to leave it as it was. However, there is so much more that I gained from Sister Dew's talk and I would like to continue to talk about just a bit. I came away from that fireside feeling so empowered and full of potential. She talked about the power of prayer and how we can ask God to teach us how to ...

Repentance

I was reading in my scriptures today in 3 Nephi 13. And I came across a thought that I felt the need to write down. Verse 24 reads, " No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon." As I read that I realized how true that had been in my own life. Something I like to do in my spare time is to go slacklining. If you've never heard of it before it's kind of like tight rope walking. You string a line of rope between two trees and try to walk across it. It's a lot more fun than it sounds because when you get good you can do tricks and things on it. But this is just something I really like to do. I've gotten pretty good at it and I can walk the whole line without having help, I can walk backwards and I can even run and jump up onto it. But even the best people at it can lose their balance or even fall off. When you fall you can either fall to ...

Nothingness vs. Worth

I was blessed with some very beautiful lessons at church today that tied together the thoughts and themes from my recent scripture studies and I thought I should share. Do with it what you will but I hope that as you read this post, the Spirit whispers hope and love to your heart. An analogy was given at church today that sort of perfectly portrays our relationship with God. Think back to when you were little, in the car, going to Grandma's house. Did your dad ever let you sit on his lap and "drive"? I don't think I've ever been in that situation but you can see the visual, right? Even though we are given the illusion that we're driving--I mean, we're at the wheel and we're told we're doing the driving but, we have a pretty limited idea of what we're doing. It's our dad in this situation that is really the one calling the shots. He is managing the speed and the turns. Even more than operating the vehicle, we may have known we were going ...
